Excellent story-- cannot wait for more. Folks might like to know how the dots connect with Dwight and that car. Dwight developed/designed/tested quite a few of the Weltmeister products back in the day. He and Jon Milledge (an IMSA Firehawk champion and renowned engine builder) had a shop in Sac called IPB Autosport, which is still an excellent shop owned now by Ron Kain. The connections between Dwight and the Garretson/Barbour 935 racing teams run out of Mountain View (World champions)... connections to Bruce Anderson and Jerry Woods.. and to Walt Maas... Right through the local PCA network to the Flying Lizards, SmartRacing Products, and so on. After Dwight sold the car, a good friend of mine owned it for a while. That friend now runs Reno Rennsport with his son and their partner. He worked at Garretson's back in the day and was active as an IMSA driver... now has a bunch of front running customers in the Porsche Racing Club. I remember watching Dwight prep and run that car at many AX events back in the day... he was a very focused competitor. It seems fitting that Pat owns that car-- he is another accomplished driver and enthusiast. Brings back memories.

Randy I really enjoyed the article and the pics - so much so that I posted the lead pic to: Post Pictures of the Right Stance Of course I didn't think to credit you and really I should know better, sorry. I've edited my post to make sure the article is linked and you are given credit - but please let me know and I can delete the post if you'd rather it not be there.

If I recall correctly, that car had a lot of very trick mods. I think most recently it was cared for at Reno Rennsport--- it was owned for a while recently by their co-owner, and Pat is a customer of theirs.

That Blaster 2 coil needs to be mounted the other way... it may fail in that position. Ask me how I know...

More to come in Part 2 including alignment specs and driving techniques! Here's the basic suspension info for the car as Dwight ran it: 22mm torsion bars in the front, although occasionally he would switch to 21s for a bumpy course. Started increasing the rear torsion bars with 27 in the rear for non-flared early 911s, then moved to 28s with flares, and 29 as the rubber got better. With Koni, Dwight developed a shorter front competition shock with a spacer. He also helped design the adjustable Weltmeister sway bars. Additionally he developed special camber plates and Turcite bushings... He tuned the car between each run.

Wait, rear toe OUT? What are the units on that 3.64 number, mm?

You need to remember that Dwight's driving style was best described as flamboyant pitch and toss. He wanted the back end to be loose at will with a front end that tended to understeer. Because of his car control skills he could get away with that. Most folks are less skilled (or have a smoother style) and want basically no toe at the rear (or a little toe in).

Definitely. I've found my car tends to be fastest when some rotation is permitted on corner entry, and is stopped by feeding throttle to plant the rear. Still seems to work with modern GT3s, and seems to be the difference between the fast guys and the scary fast guys. That only works for more prototypical corners, though. I feel I have to give up a lot in slaloms compared to more conventional cars. So anyways, that 3.64 number is mm?
