Flapper Cable Question - 1970
How does one separate the circled (?) plastic tube end fitting - fairly soft metal - from a broken heater hose clamp without buggering up the fitting & the wire cable itself?
![]() The guide tube portion of the hose clamp itself (left of the crude circle) is firmly attached to the plastic tube aluminum or pot metal fitting. I've tried the trusty old vice-grips method to remove the hose clamp section but have backed off (used what seemed to be an excessive amount of force) for fear of trashing said hose end fitting. Heat is out of the question for obvious reasons. FWIW, the actuator cable & clamp are in situ, the flapper box & hose have been removed. I have done a search but have come up empty. How are the 2 pieces joined together (forced or glued) & what's my next move? Thanks in advance. Cheers JB

Flapper cable
I just took mine apart. I took the cables loose, then unscrewed the clamp from around the duct. I sprayed the connection between the end of the cable and the clamp tube. After a couple of hours soaking twist the clamp and it should slide out.

That part is the outer cable and it just slides off once you have disconnected the wire from the flapper box

Mine just got thrashed for the same reason, rusted and seazed.
Luckily a forum member sold me new inner cables, sleeves and clamps. I also installed new heater boxes. All new. Good luck removing them as I didn’t have any.
