What to do with rusty coupe
Have a '67 912 that i dont want.
Couple of low ball offers, but otherwise not much interest from prospective buyers. Needs floors, rockers, and misc other welding. I really want to get started on a VERY rusty 71E Targa. Since the 912 isnt going anywhere, should I practice replacing floors and rockers on it? Maybe increase the buyer pool and value, and learn a little bit before I tackle the Targa? Or just store it until its worth what I paid and get started on the Targa?

Practice on it. I recently bought a rusty targa that I want to do myself. I’ve got a rotten 914 that I will learn on.

I don't believe practicing on it will enhance its value only add to your expense. Store it, sell it, but don't practice on it, their are other ways to learn.

They are worth money now. So I would sell it if you don't want it. Get the money and some scrap metal to practice on and use the money to fix the project you want to keep.

sell it.
if you "practice" on it it will or may be worth less than nothing. if someone wants to restore lets preserve one of the oldies even if it is a 912. what is the low ball price? maybe its not so low. if its learning to weld you can do that on scrap metal.

Welding a car body successfully takes a LOT of skill and practice. If you want to learn and practice, I would buy an old rusty VW and practice on that.

It takes time to learn to weld. The floors on the 912 are identical to the same age 911, so you could learn how to fit them. Depends if you want to repair the rusty 912 or not? However I would practice a bunch on scrap metal first. There are good YouTube videos on 356 floors that are also similar.

Thanks guys.
I know how to weld, but I have never done floors in a 911/912. Figure I'd practice before I start on my beloved early Targa. Limited market on a rust bucket 912, but if all the welding was done, that market increases. But does it increase enough to justify the time and money? The 912 is already on a rotisserie. I am about to order floors and rockers, just not sure if I should order for a 67 or a 71???

Do whatever you want to do with it. I would replace the panels and learn on it.
It cant be any worse than this shops work, $53k body work or $73k body work? You decide
