Tired (no pun intended) of looking for 245 by 16 tires
After much searching and finding out 245x45x16's from familiar sources like Pirelli and BFG are not available for several months, if then, I've placed an order with Discount Tire for a set of tires. They have R888 and R888R's in stock. I would rather have the RA1's but not in stock and don't know when. These are DOT while track designed. Not a rain tire but I stay off the rain. Should be fun at the auto cross and hills of West Texas. I'll let you know.

I have R888 on my Targa and so far they have been great.

I have the same issue and had to settle with Toyo T1R's. that's all I could get my hands on in Canada. ... Without paying a fortune

I gave up ~10 years ago and went back to the stock sizes. I have no interest in driving DOT-R tires on the street.

the RA-1 have again been discontinued. I know this has been toyo's position a few times over the last decade, but this time it seems a done deal. they were replaced with the RR which is not a DOT tires, but does not have to be shaved for competition use. I am aware of this due to the fact I follow along with the old "toyo spec" class, now more commonly referred to as spec911 class that I used to compete in.
by the way, the spec drivers HATE the RR and has divided the class as some have simply gone to hoosiers and are competing in PRC's GT4 class. I have a street based toyo on my 75 that is a 245 in the rear and a 225 up front.

Bridgestone RE-11 is now discontinued in that size. Super disappointed.

I don't understand this. There are a LOT of cars using 16" wheels. He!!, my wifes PT cruiser uses 205/55 -16s. Those are getting rare as well, I had to go to 225s in the front of my car. WTF?
I am so glad I got a pair of 245/45 -16 RA-1s last year. Those are my "street tires", but I fully understand why those might not be the best overall choice. That said, Tire rack still lists the 225 and 245 16 RA-1s. But again no 205 -16s!

there are still a healthy number of performance tire options available in the 205/55-16 + 225/50-16 combo spec'ed for stock sc/carreras running 16x6 fronts and 16x7 rears (or for hotrodded sc/carreras running 16x7 fronts and 16x9 rears) -- seems the issue here is that very few cars ran 245/45-16 tires and the demand for that size remains quite limited.

Perhaps if you are not a track guy you can settle for 245-50-16 plenty of street soft choices.
Reality is the market for 245-45-16 is very limited.

Believe me, you'd much rather go to 225/50 x16 than 245/50 fro 245/45 x16
Here's a thrust chart comparing 245/50 to 245/45 ![]() Another option is to use 245/40 x17 they will have the same od and hence gearing effect as 245/45 x17

I’m using the Pirelli Pzero Trofeo R for 245/45 16 and have had no issues on the street. However, the car is not a daily driver (I don’t drive in the rain) and I live in South Carolina where the temps are (usually) relatively warm. I like this tire quite a bit actually.

I got the R888R from TireRack for my new 9's. Several hours of hard canyon carving and they still have their nipples.

Guys...we get a thread on this every day. You can't get em! I've had P Zero Rossos back ordered from Tire Rack for 4 months and suspect I'll be dead before I actually see these unicorn tires!
