What type of heat exchangers are in my 78Sc

Hi All,
I am looking for a new set of stock HEs to replace my worn out ones. I have a 78SC and have heard that there are two types of HEs for the SCs, the thick flange and the thin flange ones. Which is the type that I have on my 78SC?. thanks for your help. Andy

I am certainly no expert, but a friend gave me a set of stock HEs from his 78 that I fitted to my 81 and his were the thinner flanges.

If you can get under there and measure them, I can tell you for sure.

so a thin flange will work on the thick flange studs, but not the other way around?

Either can be fitted to the other. The issue is the length of the studs. Long studs used w/ thin flange will need to be shimmedor shortened, generally a pia. Short studs used w/ thick flange will need to be replaced, a different sort of pia.

That sounds right to me, K911sc.

I had to use some spacers under the barrel nuts in order to get them to tighten up properly, but otherwise no probs, just bolted 'em on.

However, with short studs and thick flanges.....thats a problem. You'd either have to replace the studs or counterbore the flanges. Neither one of which sounds like fun to me.

And now that I've thought about it some more, when my friend gave me those HEs he mentioned something about the flange thickness. They were a spare set he came across and MAY NOT have been stock for his 78.

YOU BETTER MEASURE YOUR FLANGE THICKNESSES.
