While I love to work on my 1978 Targa, I have found that a good body shop can deal with doors and windows at rates way below Porsche mechanic fees. I fought putting a window motor in my car for 3 days leaving me with cuts and bruises on my arms. I took it to my bodyshop (Burnside in Modesto, CA. Their tech put it in while I waited. The bill was $70. While they may not be Porsche experts, they put all kind of various parts together. Ask around.

I've heard Cerakote, and have sent an email to my "local" provider (PBN Coatings GmbH) to hear their recommendations. I really don't want to do this job again.

Here's the original anodize color, in case you were wondering. Looks to be flat; is that just age?

Greetings from Arizona to you Dru,

Wonder how the door top trim is removed? Do they slide off? Getting ready for Cerakote based on your lead here!

Mike,

The top-of-the-door trim simply pulls straight up. You might be able to bare hand it by getting under it from the window channel, but I used a plastic pry bar / interior trim tool to massage it up slowly.

One of the first things I did on my car is replace the little window squeegees that are on the inside of the trim piece. Memories!

Thanks Dru,

So the top piece is held by the clips I circled? Interesting bit of info!

Yes. And thankfully, metal clips that should last the life of the car.
