Is there some trick to getting the defroster light screwed back into the floor?

I replaced my shifter bushing a year or so ago and to access it, the center console and defroster light had to get unscrewed.

Is there a trick to getting this damn thing screwed back in? I give it a few tries every couple of months and get frustrated because I can't find the damn hole through the carpet that it came out of.

Yes, I feel like an idiot asking this question but it's driving me nuts.

Use a pick tool, like an ice pick or very pointy tool to first locate the hole through the plastic box.

This is the kind of fancy thinking I was hoping to find here. Thanks!

My test light is a very pointy tool. Works great for this.

I decided to use the blind man losing his virginity method and just kept poking until I found the hole. It was a miserable, unsatisfying process but I finally got the damn thing screwed back in.

Use the same method for floor side panels and door panel storage compartments :-)

Congrats.

Congrats.

I don't think I've ever said "WHO F'ING DESIGNED THIS?!" so many times over such a simple and innocuous screw hole.

LOL, wait till you drop the engine.

I find the hole in the carpet, poke a wire/paper clip through it, slide the switch base over the wire, then use the 'blind poke' method to locate the other screw.

BTW - what's the correct orientation of the switch - writing facing the front firewall or towards the seats? Both ways seem equally logical.

You should be able to read it sitting down, left to right.
