Carrera sunroof issues

Hi: My '87 recently developed a sunroof jamming issue. Motor works fine but when opening it gets stuck and won't close. I have to manually press the operating button and manipulate the panel closed.

my question is :

is this a broken cable issue or did the panel somehow come misaligned?
are there tabs that the panel rides in that can break?

how do I start to diagnose?

thanks

nf

Sounds like a cable issue on one side may be cocking the roof to one side, jamming it. Try having someone operate the roof with the hand crank while you watch what its doing.

Sunroof cable repair and new seals 87 911

I still need to tackle the seals as soon as it warms up a little before driving season starts.

The usual issue is one of the cables has pulled out of it's slider, which is attached to the moving panel. The panel is removed, along with the offending cable pieces and then the cable end is cleaned up as needed and reinstalled back into the slider piece with JB weld and recrimping. No parts cost usually.

Happened to my 89 recently. Was just a screw that had backed out. Easiest fix ever. check they are all there and snug.

nealf2002 - I had same issue as you described. Almost a year ago I went down the path of removing everything, give everything good spray/cleaning. Then reassemble. Afterwards, tow problems remained --- 1) motor will spin, but doesn't grab cable. 2) Sunroof moves to close position using crank (front/back), but will not lift up to be flush with car roof. You can see details here on my thread, which I am reviving...
