made some progress tonight. Was a difficult evening, but persevered.

So, got the sunroof back in but had to re-install twice. After first time, I did not realize that the headliner piece on the sunroof panel needed run inside the rail. There goes 1 hr.

Problem 1:
Then, after I installed it, was able to crank it by hand. However, at full close, the rear of the panel did not want to rise all the way up/flush w roof of car. I can push it up and make it flush, but it won't go up by it self. I checked the cable holder and that pivot piece is set to the highest setting. What should I be looking to adjust?

Problem 2:
After I manually opened/closed the sunroof, I set the ignition on the setting just before engine crank, and operated the power sunroof switch. Heard the motor spin --- a very healthy loud sound, like the motor is running fast. but, not pulling the cable. However, the roof was not moving. Seems the motor is on neutral???
What to look for? Could it be the clutch piece?

Would appreciate some help from the board here. Thanks!

Resolved!

After over 8 years, I finally got the sunroof sorted out!

Resolution to Problem 1: The sunroof fully closes now, with a tight seal all around, and flush/even with the entire top of the car!

ISSUE: The segments of sunroof cable and tracks that run LEFT/RIGHT were stuck/clog'd w debris/gunk. The shop attached the cable segment to a drill and spun the cable to loosen the debris, then remove/clean.
I had cleaned only the cable/tracks that run FRONT/BACK.

Resolution to Problem 2: The power sunroof works now, full speed!

ISSUE: the transmission failed. It spun, but given any slight resistance, it fails to grab. Replaced part --- $$$$!!!

Good thing is the rubber clutch piece is still in tact, actually looking almost new!

Perhaps the transmission part could be taken apart and repaired? I don't know

I haven’t tried it with the sunroof cables but have had very good luck with spray cans of Electric Contact cleaner. From what I understand it’s similar to brake cleaner, but not chlorinated and is safe on plastics.
