what transmission do I need / short vs long bell housing

I am getting conflicting information and just trying to clear some things up

the chassis is a 1974 coupe
engine is 993 turbo
looking for 930 transmission

Im being told I need a short bell housing, but what im confused on is aren't the 74 chassis and 78+ chassis the same? same mounting points etc,...

short bell hous. trans

i cant speak for the 993 TT motor (although i believe the case length is the same you will have to get a different rear mount setup) but as far as the gearbox you will have to use a short bell housing 4 speed. if i remember correctly a 930 chassis engine mounts are set back approx. 1 inch further than the N/A chassis. i had a 74 with a short box with a 3.3 and i had to slot the trans crossmember to line up correctly. you can also have a 78-88 930 box shortened, either way bring plenty of $$$ richard

'74 and '78 911 are the same

but the 930 is different up to '77 I believe that the 911 and 930 mounted the engine in the same place

But from '78 the 930 mounts the engine a 30mm further back due to the new thicker rubber center clutch that was introduced w/ the 930/60 engine
