prep for por 15 in interior
i want to paint my interior with por 15 and have a couple quesitons about prepping the surface.
here is where i am right now and i have found no rust ![]() ![]() 1. can i put por 15 over the factory paint or do i have to get to bare metal. 2. if i remove the seam sealer, paint and stubborn adhesive with a wire brush will the galvenization be removed? if so and i paint with por 15 is this a problem?

A little wire brushing won't remove the galvenizing. You'd have to work it pretty hard with a power wire wheel to get through it. I have a POR15 user guide right in front of me (I'm using it on my '73). Says you can apply over paint but it cautions that it needs to be applied directly to rust to stop it. In other words, POR over paint over rust is not good. But POR over paint over good metal is fine. How are you going to finish it? Paint or carpet?

A heat gun works great for stubborn adhesive. Get some gloves and a wooden handle scraper too.
Best to rough up paint surface with wire brush before POR application, for better adhesion.

thanks chuck, that is what i wanted to hear. i am planning on leaving the interior in just por 15 and i plan to remove the seam sealer for as clean of a look as possible. i will try the heat gun but i also have a thin layer of adhesive in the back seat area that will not come off with mek so i plan to hit it with a wire cup.

I seem to remember that POR-15 does something (fade?) when exposed to UV.

yes, the regular por 15 specs say it will fade with exposed to uv and you need to use one of the por 15 top coats that are not uv sensitive. i plan to use a top coat as i hope it will last forever.
