How slow is Ollies Engineering??

Just curious, for those who have used them... what's the longest it took to get some work completed by them for you??

JonT 03-28-2018 12:45 PM

3 months for some case work

jpnovak 03-28-2018 12:59 PM

Depends on the work. Rods are usually 3-4 weeks. Larger more complex items probably take longer.

Think of California MotorSports in Lake Havasu AZ as a second option

I had heads, rods, and a complete balance done last year. Took about 6 weeks. I drove to the shop, so I got the complete tour. Impressive operation.

ok... that's good to know. I've reached my 1st month since everything was delivered and I don't think they've even opened up my boxes yet! LOL!

Engine cases? I think you mean gearboxes?

That’s how you avoid misplacing or mixing anything up before you start the job

I called Ollies in mid January to inquire as how long..he said around 10 weeks depending on the work required
my 1973.5 motor is there now and he calls on occasion with updates:)

For the good machine shops Ollie’s is relatively quick.

So.. all of my engine parts have been at their shop for 14 weeks.

No one has called me yet.

Should I call them and ask them 'what's going on?'... or just be patient?

When is the last time you called? It's fine to check in after 3 months. They won't have a problem if you haven't called every week for the last three months.

You have to figure that demand for their work is so high because very few people do what they do - and they are world renowned in the Porsche community.

I'd probably check on my stuff after three months if I had not heard from them during that entire time. It's 1/4 of a year - good to know ETA as summer is here...

^^^ Ditto. You are being patient. Three months is a good check in time.

sound good then... I'll give them a call at the end of this month to see how things are going.

Amstaff 05-08-2018 10:44 AM

I received a call within a week. It was the initial "I've opened the box and inspected your stuff" call. Then a very informative conversation about what work I wanted done. Followed by send me a check for X dollars so we can start the work. I was please that he talked me out of doing some work which save me some major bucks. Then maybe six to seven weeks later my boxes showed up.

yeah.. the only thing that's bothering me is NOT knowing how much everything is going to cost, as I have yet to have that conversation on what work needs to be done.
And I've put aside some cash specifically for this engine rebuild... but I'd rather be putting my money to work rather than letting it sit.

Trakrat 05-08-2018 01:35 PM

Weeeeellllllll.... Ollie's just called me today.

Guess I didn't have to wait until the end of the month after all.. WOOT WOOT!!!
