Question Cost of moving to 930 trailing arms

I have an '89 widebody conversion. It has 8" Fuchs with monster adapters in the rear. A late 930 came with 9" Fuchs and 28mm spacers, but the trailing arms are pushed out (does anyone know by how much?), improving suspension geometry and allowing for stronger wheel bearings to handle the loads of a wider track.

I'm thinking about moving to 930 trailing arms because I'd like to stick with 8" rear tires to improve tire selection and minimize rotational mass, road noise, tramlining, and heavy steering feel. It's always nice to maximize grip, but I'm not sliding this car around on public streets, and it won't see a track, so just for my own edification, does anyone know what it would cost to have this done? Everything I've read says it's "very expensive." This is what I think I know about the process:

- Remove the motor (must I?)
- Remove torsion bars
- Weld in mount brackets
- Source a pair of 930 trailing arms (looks like these are maybe $1500/side from Porsche?)
- Probably replace the double-bearings and inner bushings
- Reuse everything else that's currently on the car

Humor me—this is potentially a forever car. I'm trying to calculate costs (which will be justified in my mind by amortizing them over the next few decades...). It's not like the value of 930 trailing arms are going down...

I don't know.

I considered building my own M491 "Club Sport" from a narrow body car, including doing what you're inquiring about. I quickly demurred however. Good luck.

Coincidentally enough, these were posted yesterday...

Original date matched 930 turbo trailing arms w/hubs

And a few posts down from this one...

As a mod to an existing street car, the cost will be much greater than the performance gain, BUT @ a C&C in the parking lot standing still it's priceless to tell the story why.

Hi,
I was wondering if you did the 930 trailing arm conversion? I know this is an old post, but just wanted see if you did it. Thanks
