Show me your Instrument cluster upgrade!

Ive currently been restoring my car and went for some upgrades to the clocks.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522446717.jpg

These are the original clocks with a logo added and in the retro green lettering.

Iv'e also changed the lenses to convex lenses ground down from acrylic clock lenses.

My current issue is that I am struggling to find any Chrome bezel rings for the dash. I can find many Aluminium but the sharpness of chrome is what I need.

So, show me your photos of your customised dash..

This is not mine, but I WANT it. Really clever idea of a combo gauge.

I’d like one of these, and I’d make a combo boost / head temp gauge to replace the gas tank gauge.

I’m going to start by saying I DID NOT DO THIS!!!

The previous owner replaced the clock and fuel gauge with heater vents from a Ford F-150. He seemed obsessed with air blowing on him.

This is my 912e, and is going 911 style as soon as I get to it. This is really ugly.

Gauge set for my 914-6. Led backlight with a small remote to change backlight color and intensity.

not as extensive as other, but I upgraded my gauge back lights to LED's, much nicer. Used the kit from a member on here, carmagic.us or something?

Cleaned up face design by removing logos, icons and extraneous markings, including KMH scale. Rally hand delete and minute markers deleted (a bit of a nod to 964 / 993 clock face). Integrated voltmeter a la 930 boost gauge. LED lighting. Couldn't be happier with the result.

I love silver metal gauge rings, but even the Singers are bit too honking for me. I'd love a set of those, but a bit thinner or shorter, perhaps. Is that proprietary Singer stuff or do they just spec 'em to North Hollywood, et al?

The Singers are probably special. I don't know if those rings could be made shorter. Even the factory black rings are pretty deep.

Here's another from that workshop but from a different HK car, number 10. How many Singers are there now? On every corner just about...

The colours seem to work well together - steering wheel colour being picked out in the ring colour and the gear knob coming along for the ride. The dash 911 badge also working with the ring colour and that ties in to the wheels.
Seems to work with the leather details too.

This is the rear shelf of the same car

The Porsche lettering the same detail colour and more of the leather strap.
Not very racer, but pretty classy!

Best upgrade was LED instrument lights from Carmagic. The owner, Englebert, is a Pelican (I believe he is Rothaus on this forum).

You can actually see your instruments at night with the LEDs. He has a vintage yellowish look and a white look bulb.

I always liked the reddish lighting of BMW gauges, the benefit purportedly being that red light is better for night vision, but it probably doesn't have much effect in a car with headlights on a public road...

https://www.autoblog.com/2017/02/28/bmw-x4-toyota-tacoma-gauge-illumination/

I fear installing LEDs, 'cause I usually have my gauges at a very dim setting at night, and LEDs are always sold as being brighter than the incandescents they replace. I guess there's always inline resistors, but the (negligible, insignificant) inefficiency is a bummer.

The big problem at night is having dim gauges and a blindingly-bright blue high beam indicator...I assume indicator lights can't be dimmed for legal reasons, but ugh.

Carmagic has vintage cool white LED dash lights, it's not blinding and it plug and play-suggest you see their website and take a chance.

I agree. I prefer a dim, but legible, instrument panel, especially for long stretches of unlit road. One of my Saab press cars back in the day had a Night Panel option that shut down most of the gauges and attendant backlighting. Cool.

For your purposes, there's this... Porsche LED Lights | Headlight Relay Kit, Instrument light dimmer, External
