Bilstein roll pins

1984 911 3.2. Doing strut inserts... first question, never reuse roll pins correct? I'm missing a roll pin on the new inserts. 2nd question better to press the roll pin. Thx

correct. if you are ready to reassemble and done want to be held up just reuse an old one for assembly while the new one(s) can be ordered. you can hammer them in, they generally go in relatively painlessly. hammer will also give you a better idea if it's hanging up any where a press would simply push a misaligned pin with sheer force.

Buy a set of roll pin punches, if you don't have them No better way to screw up a roll pin than to try and use a standard flat pin punch on one.

Also pay attention to the orientation when you put them in, the "split" faces away from the shock shaft.

A flat punch is a no-no on roll pins? Good to know. In the past, I've just used a brass hammer to set them flush and then a flat punch to tap in any further amount required.

I wouldn't say it is a no-no, but it is pretty easy to hork up the pins if you are not extremely careful. The roll pin punches have a little tit that centers them in the pin, makes it much easier to keep it aligned and not chew anything up.
