trying to keep the back seats up!

One of my seat strap snaps came loose from the parcel shelf a while back and I’ve yet to secure it solidly, but I don’t ever recall if the seats in upright position ever fell flat while driving coming to a stop.

Anyway, I would wonder if it’s possible or enough room to drill an appropriate sized hole on each side and using a simply clevis pin to accomplish this rather than getting into buying new factory hardware. These clevis pins come in various sizes, but one long enough could mange to go all the way thru both seats to prevent pivoting down.

A long shot, but maybe the author of this post is still around here and might reply. Do you have a picture of this part installed? Did you weld or bolted it in? I suppose, those holes are the point to be welded it.

I have seats from a newer car, so the seat backs have the pins already, only need the new center piece for them to lock in, for them to be fully functional. This is how my seats currently look like:

I never actually put that part in. I fabricated my own part and installed it with the intention of swapping it when the new part arrived. Never got around to it.

Yes, it gets welded to the body through the big holes.

I work away 2 weeks at a time so when I get home next I'll try and take a pic of what I have installed.

Thanks! I'd really apreciate you to take some pictures of your fabricated part, as I'm undecided, to get it fabricated myself or buy a new part.

Another option is, if the part you received is gathering dust and you do not have plans to install it, I'd gladly repurchase it from you.

OK here is the part that i made. Just welded in. Sorry but the carpet is glued in.
Anything like this will do, you just have to make the holes line up.

Thanks! Apart from the slight surface rust, looks like a clean and elegant solution. Now only what's left it's to decide, fabricate or buy it new.
