Did I end up with suv 911
Hi,
Car has been in the air on the torsion bars for few months. Oem shocks were gone and new koni sport installed . After putting the car down I am shocked at how high it sits. I did noticed it starting to come down slowly as the koni sport are quite firm compared to the old ones. It needs to be driven and might settle but I’d this normal? I’m putting a photo before and after.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523655702.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523655762.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523655823.jpg |
Takes a bit for things to settle post suspension work. Get out there and cane it a bit on the back roads and report back.
|
Yep - Kinda normal.

It took my suspension about a week to start settling in. Give it a hundred miles or so!

Koni gas in the rear are way too stiff. I installed some a while ago, went for a ride and felt like I was looking down on the road due to the rear being so high and stiff. Returned them and went with Bilstein HD.
|
Thank you.
I don’t care about the stiffness as long as it settles down. It already dropped 4cm by just sitting in the garage, was 74 before now 70cm. I still have tons of work to do on it so it wouldn’t be on the road for a while. |

When lowering from a lift the outside of the 4 tires hit first due to how they hang. You hear the rubber skipping a little bit as it continues to lower and bears more weight but it’s still off until you drive or roll it back-and-forth a few times to let the tires release the tension and sit flat on the treads
if you roll it back and forth a few times it will come down a lot. |

Thank you. |
Another trick is to open the doors and stand on the door sill and bounce up and down a few times.

Awesome thread Karvadarci, I am doing the same shock replacement on my 86 911 which happens to be the same color Targa. While there, the sound deadening for the engine turned to dust. A very messy clean up. But more importantly I am replacing the flex brake lines which you may think are ok, but take one off and it is as hard as a stone and can barely flex at all. So as usual one task morphs into another and presto, I have a better car.

Hate to say it, but that size lift is not going to cure itself. I see a torsion bar indexing in you future.
Did you do a side-by-side length comparison at full extension of new vs old before install? I was going to do a swap of my old 930 shocks into my 912E and saw the 930's were 3 inches longer. Bill K |

I did measure and the car was uneven. My guess is someone did torsion bar indexing to raise the car instead of replace the shocks. I am replacing the front shocks at the same fine, will drive for a little bit and Gen decide how much to lower. |
Gas shocks can add more spring rate to your car than you'd think, especially if your old shocks were non-gas or just worn out.
Different situation, granted, but when I had my Bilsteins rebuilt, I was surprised to find that my 911 racecar suddenly gained 3/4" of ride height, and I had to redo the setup. It's possible you're seeing a similar result. If the rear is going to settle with your new shocks, it should do so after your first drive. Scott |
double ....had to delete it...

Kava ..you need to readjust your rear spring plates and the front height with the screw.
The rear should have adjustments but i forgot which year is your 911. here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/674885-adjustable-spring-plates.html |
