Question Oil Pump Screen

Hi Everyone -

I recently purchased a used oil pump from our host's classified section - part number - 911 107 008 05

Unfortunately the screen around the end of the pump wasn't included. Is this a part I can purchase from somewhere?

Thanks!

The only screen on the end of the pump is for Carrera and later
Pryor to then, the screen is part of the oil drain cover, as per the 72 S
The later pumps, from about 1975, are all 4 rib. The earlier pumps are 3 rib.

Yep, absolutely correct, that's the one I bought. I want to upgrade to that pump and do the oil bypass mod on the case. I've already got the new cover with drain plug delete. I guess I'll just have to fashion some kind of screen myself or is there one available that I can buy separately?

Thanks!

Oh and I also have the newer style oil pressure relief springs and pistons necessary for the modification and the new pump.

Why would you want to do away with the drain plug..what a mess to open.

Why not use the old style flat sump plate with drain plug and separate screen. That is what your pump was designed to work with. You still can do the oil bypass mod. As Bruce said their is no advantage doing away with the drain plug. Rob

Sorry I've been away the last couple days. I'm confused. I read in Waynes engine rebuild book that if I upgrade the oil pump then I have to use the sump cover with no drain plug. Is that not the case?

That would only be if you’re upgrading to a carrera pump with the screen as part of the pump.
The earliest of the four rib pumps is magnesium, the SC pump is aluminum and internally the same as the Carrera but without the screen.
You can use the drain plug with the original screen for your engine or the updated screen introduced about mid SC.

OK, that makes sense - thank you. I purchased a carrera pump, but it doesn't have the screen anymore. Take a look at the picture below. I just need to know if I can purchase the screen anywhere?

You need to buy a pump that is a core and salvage the complete screen and venturi tube. I don't know why someone would pull off the screen, other than because it was damaged.

Glen Yee Motorsports does a lot of pump optimizing for people. He may have a screen + tube assembly you could buy. Or try Supertec's Vintage 911 Parts. They've got a big stash of parts and may have a screen + tube assembly that they salvaged from a damaged pump body.

Regarding the sump cover, you can certainly get one with a drain plug even though you've got a Carrera style pump. The aluminum covers from Mainely Design or Burnham Performance are dished on the inside to clear the later style of pump screens

He needs to replace the entire venturi "snout" in my opinion. His pump looks like this

But it should look like this instead
