Problems with Alternator

As I have posted before, had to replace alternator. Located
a rebuilt Marchal with external VR. Wanted to replace with
same so as to avoid any of the problems with matching to the
fan surround.
Posted pics of the fan, surround, pulley half, etc. after powder
coating. Read all the posts here about clearances after powder
coating and so thought that was the problem when assembling
and fan bound on one side. Closer examination revealed that
the plactic diverter was 'squishing' down under some of the
nuts that go from the alternator through the surround and
through little 'ears' on the diverter. After much tightning and
loosening, came to the conclusion that in order to tighten the
nuts properly, it would not be possible in the original configuration.
My wrench and I tried the simple washer route, and it didn't
work. Finally he decide to round out the holes in the plastic
of the diverter, tighten the nuts properly to the surround, fan
turned beautifully, no touching etc. Then he had some aircraft
quality aluminum (he is also certified on aircraft) from which he fabricated shaped washers to hold the diverter in place.
No binding! No 'squishing'!
We installed it....[img]

As noted in earlier post, it RUNS!
Hope this is of help to any who run into similar problems.
