wiggling rear view mirror
As title suggests, my rear view mirror wiggles quite a bit ... any suggestions as to creating a tighter fit?
TIA Jason

Hey Jason,
I just fixed mine so I'll give you a play by play. (I did this with the glass out, but you can do it in car) 1. Remove the arm and rearview mirror as one via a tiny flat head screw hidden at the bottom of the arm inside a hole. 2. Place the arm and mirror in a vice, protect the arm with a rag and aluminum guides in the vice. 3. Pop the rearview mirror off of the silver ball that is held into the arm. It should pop out with slight force. Wedge it to the side, spray some silicon lube in there and it will pop out. 4. Observe that the silver ball is loose and is what is causing the wobble you have seen. 5. Remove the silver ball via the center flathead screw. Clean the ball with a scotch bright pad. Place the ball back in 180 from where it was as it will hold tighter as it has worn the edges of the arm from years of mirror adjustment. 6. Tighten the ball onto the arm firmly. No more wiggle in the ball. 7. Pre lube the ball and plastic receiver with silicon spray. It's very slick and you need a fair amount of force to pop the rearview mirror back onto the ball. 8. Screw the mirror and arm back into the pad that is glued to the windshield. Some pics. Here you can see the plastic receiver in the back of the mirror: ![]() Here you can see the culprit - the silver ball gets loose in the arm, causing the whole mirror to wobble. ![]() Cleaning up the ball. I used a brass wire brush to get into the grooves around the back of the ball. ![]() Using a vice to get the mirror housing back onto the arm/ball: ![]()

Thanks Duane for the great blow-by-blow, I'm sure many will benefit from it. In my case, as it turns out, my issue was the bracket base. I removed it from the metal disc mount, added a small piece of Gorilla tape to build up the base slightly, and replaced it on the mount. All good.
