Exclamation Horn contact(?) problem with 380mm steering wheel

Cross-posting from the Early S Registry forums Horn contact(?) problem with 380mm steering wheel so I apologize if you've seen it there.

I recently picked up one of Dr 911E's very nice "thick grip" 380mm steering wheels, part #914 347 804 10. It's already been prepared to accept the 911 turn signal cancellation ring and I want to use the "butterfly" horn pad from my original 400mm wheel.

The problem I'm running into is that now that the wheel is installed, the horn will work without the horn pad but won't once the pad is in place. Can anyone please advise? Is it simply a matter of replacing the existing horn contact or contact pin? I've searched on topic here and @ Early S but don't see any discussion on point; will search again and revise this post if I do.

Thanks,
Ed
