SSI heat exchangers -what’s the port for?.
Overhauling wife’s 79SC and just installed the SSI heat exchangers and Dansk 2->1 mufflet, wow just beautiful.
But not sure what the little port (circled in red) is for or what I should do with it. Can’t find anything with a search but maybe using the wrong terms. Guessing it might be there for later lambda cars, if so I assume I should cap it off? If so, how? There’s a rubber cap in place now, i assume it would melt in short order. TIA/Brian ![]()

That is for the warm up hose on 69-71 MFI cars. You can cap it off.

Thanks Jamie, i figured it was something like that but not sure which year(s) applied.
Any suggestions what to use for a cap? If exhaust gases are going through there I assume it’ll get too hot for a rubber bung or clamped-off hose Thx/Brian

Just hot air, no exhaust gas.

Thanks John.
In that case I’ll use whatever works on politicians...

So I figured it would have to be heat resistant, so I googled “silicone plug” and this came up. This should work on politicians too, no?

It will be interesting to see how you find how the characteristics of the engine have changed. My '79 has SSis but I swapped out the engine for an engine that already had the SSIs. So I can't really compare. Nice to lose a few Kg's off the arse end of the car too.

Those are the "wrong" part for your car. They do make the correct part without the MFI heater tube.
