seat back release knob replacement

The seat back release knob on the passenger seat of my SC is broken. How do I replace it?

The plastic knob seems to be broken. Is it attached to a metal clip?

The backside of the knob typically has a hollow shaft pointed inside toward the interior of the seat, where it "fits over" a metal male shaft. The plastic hollow probably is broken with a hairline crack....or worse...and there is a metal "barb" piece that is inserted between the "hollow" of the knob and the male shaft of the seat.....so they stay together better. There is a part number for this sharp barb...and it cost peanuts.

costs peanuts and the plastic switch will not stay on and function without the metal bard clip. AMHIK.

Is the piece you're talking about? If the plastic knob is cracked it will not thread on to the little pin with the spring. You can see how the pieces go together from these pics.

Kevin, That is the rear seatback release I think he wants the front passenger seatback release. The above clip from pelican goes into the knob.

Look here for an example picture.... we're talking the little metal "barb" next to the red release lever. Some levers are like a "finger"...this example model year is more of a round knob....but the basics are the same...

Yep. There is a little clip that goes in there to hold the knob in place. A little paper/tape will do for a "bandaid".....

Hi Guys, I have a broken rear seat, folding locator pin in my '87 Cab. I would say it is the shaft, spring and knob Kevin shows in the photo in his 2011 Post. Ive looked on the the parts list and the knob is shown as 74-89, but the shaft and spring are shown as 69-86. Can anyone confirm the correct part numbers for my '87?? Cheers John

Porsche Crest

John--

I asked the friendly Pelican Parts advisors for help with this in the past--and also have an 87. They gave me this link for the parts--note that its for 99-, but I've been told these parts will work. There's no similar page that I can find in the PET for 87-89 MYs. Here's the link to the complete parts list and diagram: Porsche Seats 1999-Present - Back Seat Backrest, Pull-Type Release (Cabrio)

Best,
Dave

My drivers seat back release is gone, the little metal tab is really hard on my fingers. So I did find this part which I believe is what's needed.
I found the two pieces together on fleabay for more money than ordering them here on PP. So I have them in my Project list, waiting the next big order.

As for the back seat backs, my 84 Row coupe has two simple straps holding it up, Yea Me!

Does this help?

I could not find your part in the PET.

Good luck,

This was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks.

I only need one other related piece: the trim piece that fits into the side of the seat, in between this knob/clip and the seat itself. It’s rectangular and curved to accommodate the arc of movement of the knob. Anyone have a part number or link for this?
