Fan Shroud removal question

I have the carbs out for rebuilding and want to take the opportunity to remove and repaint the engine shroud as well as do some general tidying up of the engine bay on my 1971 91 T 2.2.

I have removed the following:
- Visible bolts from top of fan shroud
- Visible bolts on two side pieces that connect to the heater ducting
- Coil
- Spark plug wires

The shroud is definitely loose and wanting to move BUT it feels stuck near the side piece closest to the distributor. Is there a hidden fastener under this side piece somewhere? I've looked and felt around under there but haven't found one yet.

I've searched the forums hand have found a ton of threads on removing fan/alternator but none for removing the fan shroud. It looks like it should be simple but clearly I am missing something.

All answers appreciated.

Brian,

There is a small pin that is in the case by the bottom that might be hanging you up.

Thanks RWest. Do you know if it is possible to remove the fiberglass shroud without removing the entire fan assembly?

Sorry Brian,

I misunderstood the shroud you were talking about.

The shroud on my 77 has a metal bracket that wraps around the far side of the engine.

You can see it in this photo, it is black metal.

It doesn’t attach to the engine.

Not necessary to remove the fan housing to remove the air shroud. That pin locates and indexes the fan housing to the case.

There are front/side shrouds that also attach the main air shroud to the crankcase. Get an image of a the engine shroud from the internet to locate and identify all the bold/screw holes. Here:

I found another fastener down behind the distributor. Easy to get to with no need to remove dizzy either.

THANKS EVERYONE for the responses and help.

It didn't look like it was going to be a big project since I already had the carbs off but you may be right @yelcab1
