Posted an ad in a carmag just before X-mas, mostly just for the fun of it, to "test waters" and see what the value of the car might be.
Got several serious replies, but it didn't seem right to part with the car, so I kindly replied that I had changed my mind. So far so good. However, one of the buyers kept coming back over and over again, so I decided to raise the asking price with 20% and post an ad on the P-club website to see where the limit might be. Got another 3 serious enquiries almost instantly, much to my surprise .Now I start looking for a replacement car on the web; I'm looking at 3.2's, 964's and even toss with the idea of buying a 308GTB. The cars that I find and like cost several thousands of €€€ more than what I'll get for my car, so I decide to leave at that and -again- withdraw my ad. After 10 minutes of mailing the prospective buyers telling them I'll keep my car, I get a call from one of the guys where he raises his offer ANOTHER 20% My car is in good shape, but it is a far cry from being original (some might even say it's molested, since it started out it's life as a 72S - but, hey I DIDN'T DO IT!), so this whole thing really surprises me - I know that a nice 911 holds it's value well, and I decided my original asking price based on what I feel that the car would command on the market. How can I resist +20% and then +20% AGAIN?

This may be a one chance only. You need to think things through. Is your car sorted? Is everything the way you wanted it to be? Or do you still have areas that need work?
An 87-89 G50 Carrera is rather nice you know Actually my friend who has an 88 Coupe in Malmö has put his up for sale. I don't know what he wants for it, but I think it's advertised at the Porsche Club Sverige homepage.A 964 would also be nice Ferrari 308? Shame on you for mentioning such a car here

If someone offered me 40% over what I thought my car was worth it would be gone! I love my car but 40%?!?! I would deliver it to his door before he changes his mind.

Buy a Ferrari and you will need all of that 40% just to keep it on the road for the 1st year!

Bo,
Ask yourself this question... If I sell my 72 S, and decide later that I made a mistake and want the car back, what would it cost to repurchase, or to find an equivalent and bring it up to the condition I KNOW mine is in today? A brief look into THAT marketplace has generally kept me from selling to seemingly unreasonably generous buyers...Good Luck either way. ![]() ps.. PLEASE don't buy the Ferrari> far better to make friends with someone that owns one...like a boat:-))

Well I guess that just proves the theory,
"Everything is for sale - at the right price" My wife and I have had offers on our home twice (100%) of what we paid for it only 2-1/2 yrs ago. No sale intended though - but it is a nice feeling. Also: "Be carefull of what you ask for; you might just get it!" Good Luck whatever you do, I'm sure you'll be happy.

I have this latent feeling that the real estate adage "They're not making any more land" also applies to older p-cars. I think 911s haven't seen much appreciation lately because of several factors. But the supply is shrinking as cars disappear due to accidents and neglect. I haven't been looking to buy lately, but I would suspect that good examples are getting harder to find at bargain or "market" prices. The offers you are seeing may actually reflect what a nice 72 is worth.
