Which of these items can I do without (photo) ?
Boys,
Here's the scenario. As some may know, I'm installing a 3.3 Turbo in my 70 E. I'm ready to put the motor in but I have a few electrical questions which need to be addressed. I've numbered 5 items on the CDI board which may or may not be necessary for my new motor. As you can see I have an MSD ignition installed. I also have a new voltage regulator which is required for the 3.3 motor. Do I need any of the numbered items to run the new motor. Thanks Guys. Rich Boylan |

1. might be a rear window defroster relay. Not sure.
4. might be an exterior voltage regulator. Agian, not sure. ------------------ '83 SC |

Is this a system assumed to be at equilibrium? Stochastic or dynamic? Which variables are endogenous, and which are exogenous? Is there an interest rate peg? (Oops, wrong topic; got a macroeconomics mid-term this week and that's all I can seem to think of lately).

I think #4 is the voltage regulator too. Mine had Motorola stamped on it. You say you have a new one? What is that one connected to then...

Rich,
You need #4 or a similar Voltage regulator appropriate for your 'new' alternator! You don't need #1, as that is your MFI Speed Switch. I suspect that #2 and #3 are RFI/EMI noise suppression capacitors, but who knows for sure? You will need a ballast unit for your original tach, assuming you want to use your old tach, and I belive it is #5. You probably should remove the entire relay board and compare the color coded wiring to the following diagram to confirm which is the ballast unit: ![]() ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

Guys,
Thanks for the replies. Warren, as usual your help is invaluable. Cam, The new voltage regulator is a 3-pin plug. There is a small wire loom which runs off the engine harness(on the 3.3) which plugs right in. Thanks again guys. hopefully I'll have some road time on it by next week. Rich |

I think what I was getting at was that I *think* I heard/read that newer alternators have a built in regulator, thus the existing one would be redundant.
Better check with someone who *knows* not *thinks*! Cam |
