Different g-model front bumpers?

Was there at some point a change in the g-model front bumper?

On some cars it seems very long and is almost following the slant of the hood.

On others its straighter and maybe a bit shorter.

Is it just a visual illusion? Or did they change at some point? US v ROW difference? Or perhaps just saging bumper-shocks? Or are the shorter, straighter ones, that I like the most, actually chopped and shortened?

It's the photograph, looks like a wide angle lens on the brown car.

The accordians on both red cars look to have been compressed a bit. You can shorten the bumper shocks a bit to "tuck" the bumpers, and it's generally pleasing to the eye if not overdone.

PS - to answer your question - no, but some have holes for headlight washers.

Thanks guys! Could well be the wide angle thing. But sometimes the difference is so huge it makes me wonder.

There’s another difference that doesn’t show itself externally: mid-year/pre-SC front bumper blades don’t have the mount for the oil cooler protection plate. John/CT

I see what you’re saying. I don’t know how much adjustment there is in the bumper depth but I suspect the difference is in installation. I’m not sure the first picture is an optical illusion. If it were the distortion would be uniform to the curvature of the lens. I don’t think that’s happening in the top one. It does indeed look like the bumper is more proud and angled down a bit. I could be wrong though.

Another theory is that some are aftermarket — maybe fiberglass for weight savings — and the fitment isn’t quite the same as factory.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

The accordions don't compress, they are thick hard thick rubber. You may be able to shorten them by taking material out of the middle but the ones pictured each have 5 ribs and appear to be the same length.

Do a search for "bumper tuck" for some example of how people have done it. It's really common with BMW owners but I've seen a few 911s with the same treatment.

I've got a spare bumper, spare accordions, euro trim to replace the reflectors, and a 964 smile; I'm looking to give the bumper tuck a shot this summer.

Hard to see with the Rothmans livery but this SCRS tribute car has the front bumper tucked and the 964 smile.

I think all the cars in the OP have standard bumpers. Just the angle of the photos.
