Can I use a 3.0 case with 3.2 internals?
I have a 3.2 motor in need of a rebuild, and looks like it will need a new crankcase. Can I use a 3.0 case with the 3.2 crank, oil pump, intermediate shaft, distrubutor and all the other fixings attached to the case, or do I need to find a 3.2 case?
I've done some searching and investigating but can't find anything conclusive. Bearing sizes all seem consistent based on what I see in the tables in the back of Wayne's engine rebuild book, but that's about all the concrete data I can find. Thanks for any help. Bill |
A late 3.0 case that was the new future 3.2 case or a turbo case will work for you.
You really need the locators for the flywheel sensors on the two o’clock position. The one on top is not necessary The earlier SC cases need the modified oil drain area with the depression to clear the oil screen. You would need aluminum welding to build the boss for the flywheel sensors, but you have a templet for the welder for comparison Bruce |
Good point on the sensor mounting bracket. I do plan to re-use the Motronic system so this will be an issue.
Thanks! Bill |

That's awesome, thanks for posting that photo. My 3.2 case is probably fixable according to Ollie's but good to know if I can't use it then a 3.0 could be adapted.
