Heating & Cooling Vent Question

Hi Gang,

It's been a while since I have posted here, but I have been reading. It's been a long winter here in Maryland and little road time for the silver surfer (1988 Silver 911 Carrera). Now they are calling for 12 more inches tonight

I did manage to get out before the last 24 inches we had and take her for a spin, but something must have broken because I get no heat on the divers side. The passanger side vent works fine and will heat the passanger out of the car. My diverside vent for the defroster also does not work. I do not know much about how the vent system is controled in the 1988 models, but I would guess a cable or something is broekn? Any helpon how to fix this would really be appreciated!

Thanks!

Brandon

Well....
For your 88, you have an engine mounted blower that must still function for the downstream elements to work ( footwell blowers). That seems ok since you're getting heat on the psnger front...but check. Also seems that the heater control box in the console between the seats is functioning...otherwise no heat at all in the cabin.
I'd say most likely suspect is the driver's side heat control valve tucked up high in the driver's side rear fender well. Follow the flex hose from the engine...and you'll find it. Default position is "open"...so it dumps heat into the atmosphere. Closed causes heat to travel into the car. Can be a cable or cable attachment problem. If you report back after this...I, or others can go further with you...

Wil,

Thanks. I will take a look this weekend and report back. All that you said is correct, I can get the heat to blow fine and the temperature control works fine as well, just all the air comes out the passanger side footwell and that side up top on defrost.

Thanks alot! I will report back.
