Tranny metal shavings ?
Changed my transmission fluid on my newly acquired '79 SC. Records on the car are very limited. Car has 172k miles. I do not know if any major work has ever been performed on transmission. It drives pretty nice. Still getting used to the transmission as this is the first one I have ever owned.
Fluid looked like it was definitely due for a change. These are the metal shavings on the drain plug. I have never dealt with this transmission or one with this high of mileage. Does this appear normal or bad? (sorry about the focus. Didn't realize it wasnt optimal until to late) All the shavings appeared like fine hairs. No big pieces.

Only start worrying if you can start reading partial part numbers off the chunks.

It depends a little on how long ago the last fluid change was. If it was changed many miles and years ago, I wouldn't worry about the fuzz. If it was six months and a thousand miles ago, I might be a bit concerned.

no worries keep on truckin. Just put the right fluid back in
 . I don't want to start a fluid debate so I will say check the specs and put compatible fluid back in
