Finally an update on this thread!
After nearly two years to the day and few hoods produced and used, a couple produced that didn't meet quality and we're in the final stage of tool/process refinement. The length of time was due more to other projects and internal issues getting in the way of focusing on this part. We've done a couple of hoods in the last week, one for a local customer, one for a customer doing RWB build. The hood in the pics is for the RWB. It's shown after demold, trim, scuff and and is wet in the pics. This one is going to be a painter with some specific texture related requirements that the paint shop will address. It's not meant to be a representation of a full clear carbon part, simply and example of a completed part.
Indecently, it's the same RWB build we are providing one of or CF roofs for.
After the long winded intro, the best part is that this hood is dimension-ally accurate copy of the stock short hood, uses an interlaminar resin infusion strategy with a urethane core and certified aerospace grade carbon form Toray and comes in at a weight of ~6lbs including steel mounting hardware to accept factory hinges and latch.

Thanks for reading my long winded post,

ToddC

Pardon my ignorance, but how does that compare to a steel hood in terms of strength and rigidity ? It certainly is impressive in terms of weight and looks. I am of course assuming that it is quite strong.

No ignorance Daniel, it's a great question. based on the materials and process it's quite strong, very rigid yet very resilient.

Regards,

Todd

Nice work! How does the underside looks? Maybe an idea of the price range?

Hi TD,

Thanks for the compliment!
They are in production now but not being stocked. They are being built to order and take approx 2 weeks from order to shipping.

There a FS listing in the classifieds now.

Word of caution here. I payed for my hood on january and after three monts waiting and empty promises (I bet someone got my hood) we agreed on refund and I still have not been refunded and Im not a happy customer. I wanted the hood for this summer so I was early in ordering. I wanted the refund as it would not have been shipped to Europe in a container fast enough for summer and I could have ordered one from DP to get it for this summer but Im not ordering before I get my refund. So this summer is lost with this CF hood stuff, maybe next summer will be good.

I did buy a CF moonroof from DP it was done/shipped in 6 weeks.

Thank you Ola for posting this message. It's a painful reminder that we have a couple of back orders to fill and other issues to take care of. Hoods are just one of the many parts that we are working on. Unfortunately I dropped the ball on this and others for family reasons that I care not to discuss.
We did in fact agree upon a refund and unfortunately we have not been able to do that based on our cash flow position.
Between the time message was posted and today, things have changed and we're getting back on plane. You have also pm'd me regarding shipping the hood vs. refund. You'll see my reply when you check you PM's.

I would like to take this moment to tell the Pelican community that while we face challenges, We are not going away. We will continue to fight the good fight and continue to get quality products out as fast as we can while rebuilding our infrastructure.

For example, short hoods are not vapor-ware, we have a couple in stock in addition to the back orders that need to ship. It's now a matter of crating and freighting.

See attached.

I hope the explanation helps and I welcome questions and inquiries,

Todd Candey

Yes, we now agreed to just fill the original order so I will get the hood I planned to get in the first place and since its already made it makes it quicker than ordering for DP. Family comes first always but maybe more communication would help in these backorder cases?

I'm not sure I understand, a '77 long hood? I thought those ended in 73.
Unfortunately, we've not tooled up a long hood yet.

Todd - can you comment on fitment? Is this ready to install and use or does the short hood need some bodywork for proper gaps and fitment? Any purchasers with firsthand experience? Thank you in advance for your reply.
