Torque Spec - Brake Line Fittings
I had to cut a brake line off because the darned thing was on WAY too tight. Here's the worst part: I put that brake line on (probably).
So....what's the torque spec on brake line fittings? Probably not 80 lb/ft, I'm guessing.

Bently Carrera '84 - '89 manual:
brake line to caliper : 10 ft-lb brake line to brake hose : 10 -12 ft-lb brake line to brake component 7 - 11 ft-lb (but what component to they mean and 7 to 11 is a wide range) Haynes 911 manual: hydraulic connections: 14.5 ft-lb (on an 11 mm wrench hex nut, seem like way too much) |

How do you measure torque when using tubular wrenches on your brake hard line fittings? Right or wrong, I have just been snugging them up, stand on the brakes, check for leaks, repeat as necessary.

I guess you could use a crows foot. It's not a space shuttle just tighten it by feel you'll be fine.

These are a connection that is very easy to over-tighten. Just make it snug and then give it a little more effort. But not too much. If you tighten it too much, you can feel the flared end of the tubing squishing a little bit.
Squishing it doesn't damage the connection and it doesn't cause a leak. But later on you often find the sucker is really hard to break loose. <--- No chit, right? ![]()

10 ft-lb is very little - all they really need to be is tight enough not to leak.

Probably a little more if you are squishing banjo fitting seals to a (whatever car) brake caliper but not much more.

basic man`s hand movement with a wrench is between 10-15 ..so do not stress with any gauges just make it tight and you will be fine...........

You can push on a bathroom scale and get an idea of how much force to use.
