Koni Struts

I just took off that big ole fat spacer on the top of my strut,(because I'm in the middle of lowering). When I went to feed the top of the strut back up through to reassemble it came falling back down. In other words when I fully extend the shock and let it go, it will slowly retract into itself. Is this normal or do I need new inserts.

Are you saying the shock collapsed under it own weight while reinstalling it? If so stop right now and order some new inserts.

Gas shocks will want to extend, hydraulic shocks will just be content to stay in the position you left them..never heard of a shock collapsing on itself unless its failed

Thanks TimT,
Thats what I expected. They are the originals. The rears were changed out with Koni yellows while the fronts still have the reds. I dont' know why the original owner mixed and match. Any ideas?

Rouxzy, Are you in the market for some Koni inserts? I have a set for sale. They are the adjustable sports. They have about 15k on them. Let me know.

Cheers, James

Just got off the phone with a rep with Koni. This is not a problem. It turns out that this is part of the dampening system. It is suppose to do this. When I pulled up on the piston it pulled hard which created a vacuum inside the shock which drew the piston back down. Now if when pulling the piston out and it pulled out easily then that's another story. It's good to know that Porsche decided on a shock that would last 26 years and 130+k miles and still cary its wait.
