Big Red calipers including rotors, adapters and pads Kit for your 911 or 914/6
I am selling a set of Big Red calipers that came off of my 914/6 as I switched to 930 brakes in order to run 15" wheels.
Included are front and rear calipers, front rotors and hats, front pads as well as adapters for both front and rear calipers. I do not have rear rotors and pads but that stuff is cheap and easy to find. Asking $2500 or best offer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Bump to the Top for a killer brake set up for your hot rod or track car. I've had some interest but no money yet so still for sale!

Not sure who made the adapters but they came off of my no expense spared 914/6 race car that I purchased a couple years ago.

Does this setup work with standard 16" Fuchs (7" front, 9" rear) on a mid '80's car, or would I need a 944 offset 8" front to make them work?
Thanks, Bill |

I’m not sure but would think these would be best in 17” wheels. That said they worked on HRE 3 piece 16” wheels on my car.

I only switched in order to run 15” wheels...class rules. I can measure later if need be but maybe these photos help. ![]() ![]()

This kit looks like an early version of Vehicle Craft Inc (VCI) big red kit. I say that because the adapters VCI uses have always been very beefy and the shape of them looks like the ones that I have personally had my hands on.
The front rotors look like Coleman rotors because they have large raw looking vents. Jay, if I may suggest, it'd be good to flip the rotor over and show how it's fastened to the hat. Are they direct-bolted or are they the floating type? Another thing worth noting is that the rear calipers are actually better than the common 993 twin turbo big red calipers a lot of kits use. The 993TT calipers are four 28mm pistons and too small for old 911s and 914s. These calipers shown here look to be 964 turbo rear calipers with 30mm and 34mm pistons. The 30/34 964T rear calipers are a great match for the large big red front calipers and provide excellent hydraulic bias. Sounds like splitting hairs but the slightly larger 30/34 piston sizes make a BIG difference in improving the brake balance compared to other typical rear calipers like 993TT (all four 28mm pistons) 930 (all four 30mm), 964 or 944 turbo/968 (28/30) The rear rotor used here is the original rear rotor used on the '78 to '89 930. Very good rotor for track use, even though it has holes cast into it. It's a big beefy rotor that can handle all the track abuse you can throw at it. It's a bolt-on perfect fit for the older 911s. Big Red complete upgrade for 911 914 930

Thank You Kevin. I'll get some more photos.
...and the reason I am not selling the rear rotors is that they are currently being used by my 930 calipers on the 914/6. ...in case any knows the car, these brakes came out of the old Dave Ferguson 914/6 beast that I now own. It was a 2x National champ in solo and set some pretty fast lap times at Laguna Seca with these brakes. I don't know if 16x7&9 fuchs will clear or not. I will check the rotor clearance against 16x7s I have here but I think these probably belong under some 17s. As I said though, these were under the 16x10 HRE 3 piece wheels.

The rears will fit under 16x9 Fuchs no problem. The fronts are REALLY tight. I don't think they'll fit the 16x7 or 16x8 951 Fuchs without spacers.
The reason I say the fronts likely won't fit the 951 Fuchs is because I had a similar front brake setup with a slightly smaller diameter rotor. These rotors Jay has are a bit larger than mine and that pushes the caliper further up toward the wheel barrel. The problem with the Fuchs is that their center is the same as a 15" Fuchs. So the barrel of the 16" wheel is tapered to meet the center section. It's that taper that creates clearance issues, even with the 951 Fuchs that were purposely designed to have more brake clearance. My front brakes used a Wilwood 309mm rotor and the calipers were basically the same size as Jay's. It was a really tight fit inside a 951 Fuchs. So tight that the rubber cap on the bleeder would rub the wheel barrel and the balancing weights couldn't be placed inboard behind the face of the wheel. But under 16" BBS 3 piece wheels (the common 34 bolt RS street wheels), and even the one piece 16" BBS wheels, the hybrid "custom" 993 brakes cleared easily. So unfortunately the original Fuchs are a bit finicky when it comes to fitting brakes any larger than 930 brakes. 993 caliper upgrade, can I use 951 Fuchs?

I did my best to up-sell them for you Jay! Somebody will come along and snag them. Great brake setup for a car that sees track duty or for someone who just wants to bling up their street car

These are still available until I change my mind and keep them. ...been thinking of musical brakes and putting the 930 brakes off the race car onto my '74 hot rod and putting these big reds back on the race car. Speak up soon if interested.
Best,
