Known Scammers List

It occurred to me we could have a running tab/thread of known scammers. No need to start a new thread every time we run across a new scammer. Just add here. This thread will then continuously get bumped (sadly) and will hopefully come up should anyone search a user name or email when doing due diligence. If this takes off and is well used, great. If not, well, here's my known scammer.

Here's a user name and the email he PM'd to me in response to a recent wanted ad I had running;

It occurred to me later that once this thread gets buried a page or more deep, people aren't going to be aware of it unless they do a search or stumble upon it. I'll see if Dmitry want's to pin it to the top.

I love your optimism but not gonna happen. Takes about 60 seconds to come up with a new Gmail address. Crime is the world's second oldest profession and it's not going to be stopped by posting names that are scrapped after a day or two. How about not doing business with guys who have less than 1 post and use broken English, who fail to offer a photo and "know a friend" who happens to have exactly what you seek.

How about no ability to send private messages or post in a for sale section unless you have 5 or 10 posts. Sure they can post some nonsense posts to get to 5 or 10 posts but it makes it more difficult and I would think most of them won’t do it.

If I recall they had this for a while. Though it does take more work on behalf of the scammer, it doesn't stop them. Instead, it mucks up multiple forums instead of just the classifieds. They end up hitting the main forums as they just randomly copy and paste quotes into new threads or leave nonsensical replies.

A fellow forum user PM'd this to me;

Hello, I’m pretty certain that “driven” is the well known scammer Carlos Nin, aka Utopia and Drummer (and several more). He sent me the exact same photos of a part that I had received from Drummer earlier this year. I think he’s based in Puerto Rico, and not sure there’s anything you can do until he actually scams someone

Interesting that you would be advocating for this list as I had a less than desirable experience with a deal we had. For background, JackMan and I had a verbal deal on an engine case. I offered to deliver it from FL to OH for free since I was going to be in the state visiting family. So I rent a minivan in order to have enough room for the engine case and my family and we head to Ohio. Almost as soon as I get to OH, I get a call from JackMan saying he found another engine case for less $. He then proceeded to offer me half of our agreed upon price. I was appalled so declined and ended up lugging the case on our entire road trip. So not a scammer per se, but JackMan is not someone I would recommend dealing with. Yes, I learned the hard way not to do anything like this without funds in advance. And I also take full responsibility for opting to rent the minivan on my own dime and offering door to door delivery. I learned the hard way that trying to go above and beyond can backfire.
