Yep, you are still on a rant... :>

The real race stuff gets hidden away and then sold for 10 cents on the dollar when it becomes property of an estate.......

Cheers

A few years ago I went on a space-making spree in my garage. I piled up a couple boxes of shyte, and put it out on the curb for the trashman. In the morning pulling out of the driveway, I glanced at the pile. I got out of the car and carried it all back to the garage. Put it all on ebay, maybe a dozen auctions. It was all garbage (to me). I had some 2.2S pistons/cylinders - I made the auction pretty clear about condition - I even said in the piston auction "please bid on these as if they were paperweights". The 2.2S pistons/cylinders cleared $200, and I got $1,000 overall. This is stuff that was sitting on my curb and damn near thrown away.

Conversely, another load of crap that DID get taken away by the trashman came back to bite me when I bought my '76S. That car came to me in boxes and was advertised as 'complete'. Yeah, right. When I made up the list of missing stuff, it was pretty much the same stuff I had thrown away a couple months before. Drove up to dC Auto and had to pay around $500 to replace my 'garbage'. Pissed me off.

Do I have a point? Oh yeah..ummm...one man's trash is another man's treasure. And one man's trash is the same fking man's treasure a few months later. Let it go.

Guess you haven't seen some of the stuff Jeff has sold here. I'm still po'd I missed by minutes the RSR struts he sold for pennies on the dollar a while back.

Did you see the 930 brake set up posted earlier today?

I agree that the ratio of good sheet to junk is low but good stuff comes up.

Thanks guys for all the stuff on here and the web site.
I bought the 930 calipers and rotors only to find that the rotors are under specs after i bought them, but the seller did honor my first post as the first bidder. To me it's about honor and respect here.
I will put the calipers on here first before ebay to help other people with the same obsession disease that i have.
We all love Porsches and cant stop.
So that's where the parts end up.
In someones garage working on a project that may never get finished, but what we have to remember it that it is a dream weather it gets finished, or it is just a rare part that someone is just proud to have.

Thanks,
Dave

Don,

I am that Pelican "Idiot" that passes stuff on to good homes for next to nothing...... Ask GerogeK, I sold him some 930 rear calipers for $200 just because that is what I came across them for at a local wrecking yard...... He was happy, that made me happy, all was good!

Byron, PM is incomming! Beg, borrow, steal, rent I would like to get my hands on that thing!!!

Dave hit it right with "its an honor system here". Most of my stuff goes for way less than it is worth. I figure it is going to a good home of a fellow enthusiast, so it is all good. I have not seen stuff reliststed so I hope the buyers were true.

However, DTW brings up a good point too. I have tossed a bunch of stuff in the bin at the dump that I have seen on here go for decent money. I really would have rather given the stuff away (which I have done) than toss it. Maybe I will post a "free" add next time I am thinking about putting stuff on the curb....

Cheers

Where does all the real race stuff end up...........Hum...
In my garage, attic, under my bed.........for 20 years

Ed Harris also is quite the pack rat and has made a wonderful living at it over the years. http://www.racecar.com/edmondharris/index.html

Elevenparts is another rat holer. You want stuff they got it for a premium. (drool is free) http://www.elevenparts.com/index2.php

On the positive side I have to go with the "honor system". A lot of folks give it away cheap because it is no practical use to them. It is just stuff that has piled up over the years. It has value but is not going to get used. It does feel good to help someone out and liquidate at the same time. I also believe it is returned in karma. Offer a fair price and live to sell another day. Too many people out there asking to much for junk. Then we have the good guys who I respect.

My thing was NOS sheetmetal and suspension pieces. Twenty years of stuff finally was all sold and financed an entire new build. (Almost) I felt good, buyers were happy with what I charged at a great discount for unobtanium parts and I made a few bucks. Everyone was happy and I sleep at night.

I even sold a complete running 914 motor for $1.....why? because it wasn't worth anything to me and I knew some guy on a budget really needed it. I needed the space even more though. That was the heaviest item and also the extreme low end of the sale. Some were paperweights, other unusable fractured magnesium and aluminum parts were sold for scrap at the metal recycler.

I see guys offering used rotors for sale? Throw that crud out!

Afterburn,

Tired of your rants. Tierd of them getting bumped to the top. If you are not happy, go away.

I have bought plenty of really nice race/HP parts here including an almost new Tial wastegate and gutted/coated cat yesterday.

I bought a B&B C2 race muffler setup two weeks ago for half b&b price.

I missed out on a really nice chasecam because the guy 'only' wanted $750 for it and all the pcs he was selling.

Maybe you are just not willing to pay what the market will bear for the nice suff.

I had a clewett serpentine belt setup that I was trying to sell here for a couple of months. Had my buddy put it in his ebay store for an extra $100 and sold it in two weeks.

People (including me) need the 30 year old clapped out stuff otherwise no one would be selling it.

Man, now you have me on a rant.

Ed

The makings of a great show on TV: Old Race Car Treasure Hunting. Old ladies open ancient barn doors to a collection of Speedsters, a Ferrari 250 GT graveyard is found in the woods of Maine, a building is demolished in NYC and a fake wall comes down exposing a pristine 917...

I have bought pretty much every piece (except real wear items like bearings and bushings) to build my car on this board or e-bay. It has taken me almost 5 years to accumulate what I wanted and in the mean time I have also bought a lot of stuff I will not end up using which will go back here. You want it right now, pay the price and buy it new. You want a deal, watch, wait and know what a deal is so you can say, I'll take it when it shows up.

A lot of the race stuff is stored in shops that do the work on the cars. Takeoffs of stock parts and takeoffs of upgrades (probably to return cars back to stock) seem to pile up after awhile.

Coincidentally, check out this email I just received this morning from one of our PCA region admin staff.

This is not an official Region event ... but it is Porsche related and something to do to counter the January 'cabin fever.'

We had to move. It was our Density. Yup, the old shop had become so densely
