FS Vintage Porsche Dealer Sign

I bought a Porsche Dealership sign at auction a few years (10 +/-) back, and I thought I would offer it up for sale.

Anyone have interest in this or give me an idea on what its worth?

I imagine crating & shipping would be expensive. Its about 1m x 2m in size, and designed to be lighted from inside.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Please email me any replies.

If you'd prefer a local pick-up, I'm interested in that sign. -- Matt

You can count me in too if you will take $40 plus shipping.

It is hard to tell but it might fit in a Bike box. just a thought.

cheers,
rich

So far I have had offers ranging from $40 to $300, plus cost of packing & shipping.

The sign cost me many times more than the highest offer so far.

I guess I was bidding against someone else who really wanted it also.

So, it seems the only fair way is to put it up for auction again, this time on evilBay.

Once I am able to take more photos & place the ad I will post the item number.

Thanks everyone.

Len

I am told this sign was over $5k new.

Any offers for 1/2 this amount?

As an owner of a sign shop I can tell you there is no way that sign cost $5K. The original manufacturer made a mold under license from PCNA and produced many copies. Most likely sold for just under $1K. The face is the valuable part as the box and internals can be easily replaced. Ballasts are probably shot. You'll likely get your highest price on ebay.

Looks like I paid way too much.

Regardless, its available and would make a great conversation piece in someone's garage.

How about a trade for 911 parts?

Len

I reread my earlier post and I'm sorry if I sounded harsh - didn't mean to rain on your deal. Good luck it is a cool sign.

Yeah, regardless of what it was worth new it is now worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Hell, if I didn't need a new turbo and a couple of other things I would certainly be interested.

from a purely manufacturing perspective $1,000 is fair. unfortunately, the factory was probably making a healthy profit on items even those it required the dealers to carry. a similar item in 1975 would have been invoiced @ $1,500. (Bruce Watson has one from that era including the original invoice) Len's piece was certainly somewhere north of that. last year i purchased the roof sign from the former Fleischauer dealership (now Porsche Zentrum) in Koln.
cheers
jerry

Still available.

I would trade for some interesting early Porsche item, or offer it as part payment on a early Porsche.

I am open to offers, but nothing below $1500 which is what I paid for it.
