912E-Cylinder deck height question

Installing new cylinders and pistons in a 2.0 for a 912E. The kit is the 94 mm 8.1 flat top kit from AA. The gasket kit contained 4-0.25 cylinder shims and 4-0.75 head shims. The old school mechanic next door says that the head space with just one 0.25 shim is too close and I should use 2 of the 0.25 base shims. So I am going to mock up the 1 and 2 shims and do the squished solder proceedure that is mentioned in Waynes 101 Projects.
Has anyone here had any experience with any of this? Any advice?
Thanks in advance!

A deck height of .052 is a good number
