VIN and engine codes
I have never been a number matching kinda guy, I have not worried about it. Am I right in remembering that 912 VIN numbers and engine/trans numbers never match? You have to get a CoA to know for sure if the engine is original?

912 numbers are not an exact match but follow model year series numbers: 912 Registry Technical Data.
COA's are no longer available: it has been replaced by 'Classic Technical Certificate' (more expensive; must be done at dealership). There is also the 'Porsche Production Specification' but it does not have engine/transmission serial numbers. Peter

You can get a Kardex which will show the original numbers. Also you can check out 912vin.com and see what the motor numbers are of cars near your VIN. It wouldn’t be a guarantee, but it would give you a strong likelihood if the numbers follow suit.
