I am in need of a set of 912E engine tin...does anyone have any suggestions or sources that I can expolit.
Thanks, Britain |

If you can weld, you can basically make it from 914 sheetmetal and a slightly modified 912 bellhousing tin.
I did. :) If you want the pretty factory stuff though, the 912E stuff will do, but you'll be paying for it. Later, G |
Check out Griznant's work, the man is an artist with sheet metal, IMHO his work looks better than the factory tin...

Could you send me pics of the modified 914 sheetmetal?

I'm no where near a professional welder. Not bad, but not a pro by any scope. It will work, and it doesn't look too bad, but pictures are very forgiving. ;) Thanks, G |
I like Griznant's job too. Besides, there were only 2,099 912E's produced in 1976. Can't be that much factory sheetmetal out there. If you get a good look at the 912E sheetmetal, the factory did exactly what Griznant did by taking the 914 2.0 sheetmetal and doing a little cutting and welding. They did make a "custom" piece to fit between the flywheel end of the motor and the car body. My first attempt I did the same as Griznant and used the old 912 piece here bent slightly and attached to the 914 tin. Later I came across someone who needed 2.0 914 engine sheetmetal and they had the 2.0 912E sheetmetal. It was a good trade!
