Has anyone ever redesigned the heating system?
Hej Guy & Girls
Having driven AirCooled 911’s and there variants for many many years the heating and ventilation even when it’s in great condition is pants at best. Especially when you live in the UK and have heritage in Scandinavia taking trips up north’s Waiting for the car to defrost and keeping it from fogging up is a constant knight-mare. So having recently taken delivery of a U.S import LHD 1976 912e & being in lock down I’ve been attacking jobs. One job was installing a new bigger oil intercooler on the deck lid. Whilst i was there I was wondering if anyone has ever installed a tee piece to feed an oil to fluid heat/exchanger (like that found in marine applications) that then runs via an electric pump to a heating matrix and multi speed fan (like those found in kit cars/ rally cars) replacement and connect to ducts in the cab utilising the old controls. I love the air-cooled cars but I plan to use my 912e as an everyday run about and it’s my only bug bare. I’d welcome your comments!! Last edited by That4PotFeeling; 01-28-2021 at 12:23 PM.. |

I have the heat fully functional in my 912E and find it more than adequate even down in the 20s. Make sure your heat exchangers are not full of holes and your engine bay blower works and you'll have more than enough heat unless you are experiencing temps below the 20s. The engine thermostat and flaps are crucial also for regulating engine oil temp especially in the lower temperatures.
