Need Help on Steering Column

Yesterday my wife and I enjoyed a beautiful Spring Day ride in our 912E. I did however notice a vibration in the steering wheel especially on bumpy pavement. Analysis of the problem revealed there is approximately 6mm of vertical play, and maybe only 1mm of horizontal play in the wheel. Once home in the garage, and the car at rest, it feels like the wheel is pivoting on a joint just inside the black collar on the face of the dash. I searched for some type of locking adjustment but the plastic housings revealed nothing obvious. Unfortunately I have no drawings of the column assembly, or disassembly guidelines for the dash. Can anyone please offer some advice. Is the FIX a simple bushing replacement or mechanical adjustment? -- Or -- Does the problem require a FIX by a professional? Thank you in advance for any comments or advice ............ Rich G. - WPA
