weber ID

Hi,
I recently bought a matched pair of weber 40 idf from ebay. They are marked 40 IDF 78 and 79. Does anybody know for which car they were originally made for? The reason I asked is because I find them a little different from the ones I have. The idle jets are accessed from the top instead of the side and there are starter jets present ( not found on my old pair). The emulsion tube is marked F67, something I can't find in the parts book.
Thanks
David Tan

I got a set like you, most likely off a Fiat or something like that. The idle jets must have been placed there specific to a certain application so to access them only from the top. Just rejet it to your engine. Mine are working perfect. I do like the throttle control lever adjustment screw, it really makes it easy to sync them.

David,

It might be that those numbers are a "series" number but I am just not sure.

Did you happen to buy these from a guy in Italy??

I would highly recommend Bob Tomlinsons tech book on Webers available at

www.cbperformance.com

Just got mine and can't put it down, for $10 (US) you can't go wrong here.

www.piercemanifolds.com might be able to help as well as CBPerformance and these guys.

Hi all,
Thanks for the response.
Did you use the F67 emulsion tubes? I bought the weber update kit from cb and will try try them on these carbs. I believe this will bump up the main venturi size to 34mm.
How does the cb manual compare to haynes and the pat braden one?

David,

I also have the Haynes Weber manual but I personally think the CB manual by Bob Tomlinson is far superior in terms of readability and understandability (such a word) for a carb dummy like me. Much better illustrated and written with some humor in it.

For $10 (us) you can't gop wrong.

David,

I just tried the F67 for the first time after running the F11 and F7 I think the F67 is the best so far, If you compare them you see it sets just a bit lower in the fuel, anyhow I did notice a very quick and smooth acceleration clear thru 7000 and the plugs are golden.

They (f67) came with the carbs I got from (The Guy In Italy) I am still runnin 195 air corr, 145 mains and 60 idle. These are a hybrid of sorts carb. The venturies made for the 40 idf will not fit these but the venturies that fit the 44's will fit, but these are 40 idf carbs. Could there be a set twixt the 40 and 44? I have a set of 34 venturies ordered. I have run 32mm with a loss of punch at 6000rpm and now have 36mm but they are just a tad big for the 2500 rpm range. I think the 34's should be right on. The real nice thing is these are TRUE left and right carbs.
