judder when reversing
My 1966 Porsche 912 has started to judder and vibrate when reversing. It is becoming almost impossible to reverse uphill.
Does anyone know what may be causing this? It does not hapen when i pull away forwards. Thanks, Paul |
I suspect....
that you have a cracked front transmission mount. Check the mounting pads. They can be replaced easily enough - you don't have to remove the trans from the car.

Thanks Mark,
The front transmission mounts were my first thought, but when I crawled under the car they look ok. I'll check them again and maybe replace them regardless. Why would these only cause it to judder when reversing and not in first gear? Paul |
the other possibility
Is that you have a hot spot on the flywheel. The reason it's more apparent in reverse is that in first you engage the klutz and then drive off, 2nd, 3rd, etc. In reverse you just slip the klutz, and that causes the vibration.

Please excuse my ignorance, what is a hot spot on the flywheel?
