Dyno Runs Anyone?

Attention Pelicanites!!!

My office just got a new dyno. Who wants to come and play?

Granatelli Motor Sports is located in Oxnard, CA at 1000 Yarnell Place. Our dyno is capable of testing front, rear, or all-wheel drive vehicles - sports cars, passenger cars, trucks ... you name it and we can dyno it.

Of course, there are fees ... but I'm working the boss to allow for a Pelican Parts group dyno discount.

We're planning our first dyno shootout - pay to pull, winner takes home a cash prize and some GMS swag - for February 2004.

So, who's in?!?!

Think your P-car's got the moxy to tangle with the Granatelli Motor Sports twin-turbo Corvette? Or how about the GMS BMW M5? Maybe you could beat up on ourS600 Mercedes? Wanna find out? Come out and play!!!!

E-mail me at mgerace@granatellimotorsports.com for more information and/or to reserve your spot on the guest list. I can also be reached from 8am-4pm here at the office - (805) 486-6644 ext. 15.

Hope to see you here.

Dang, too bad I'm in Tejas...I just know my 120hp 616 mill would trounce that 600hp twin turbo Vette! But it does sound like fun, if I was closer I'd have to be there.

It's not always about how much power you make but, rather, how well you can make use of what you've got.

And by the way, 600hp is a generous estimate ... we're looking at about 550 crank and 480 rear wheels with a stock, untouched motor and relatively low boost - about 10-12 lbs I believe.

Quick OT: But don't forget the dyno!!!

The Scene: Saturday Night, Haskell just north of Ventura Blvd., 10:30pm

I was driving home from work, headed down Haskell to the freeway on-ramp (for anyone who doesn't know, Haskell is a two lane, residential street with two stopsigns - speed limit 30mph). So there I was, cruising down the street at about 25-30 mph headed for the on-ramp. I'm the ONLY moving car on the road in either direction, and I see a little Chevy Cavalier about 15 yards up ahead. It's rolling slowly next to the curb on the my side of the road with its brake lights on.

I think to myself, "Okay, this guy is parking," so I move towards the center line to give the person room in case they open the door. Then, when I'm about 5 yards away, the car makes a sudden U-turn across my path of travel. SWEEEEET!!!

I climb on the brakes and lock 'em up, doing everything I can to avoid the moron in front of me. The driver got scared when my tires started screeching and just stopped in the middle of the road - if the car would have moved we would have had a close call instead of an accident. No dice ...

I knew I was gonna hit the Cavalier, so I did everything I could to avoid hitting it in the door. I wound up colliding with the left side of the car just behind the rear wheel.

As soon as the accident occured I opened my door and started yelling vicious obcenities at the driver - who turned out to be a 17 year-old girl. She started crying and her two girlfriends started yelling at me because I "hit them" and made her cry. I screamed for about 10 minutes, when I was done screaming I started laughing like a maniac.

Now, the left front of my car is toast. I got paid by my insurance company - hers claimed that I rearended her?!?!?! The car is ready and waiting to go to the bodyshop in early January.

Dang man, hate to hear about something like that happening. If I were you I'd hound the hell out of her insurance company. I'm getting tired of all the insurance BS. 17 years ago insurance wasn't mandatory here in Texas, at 16 I was paying 25 bucks a month for liabilty on a hopped up full size Ford pickup. Now that insurance is required by law and the insurance industry doesn't have to try to get your business, they know they already have it if you own a car, I pay close to 80 bucks a month for liabiltity on a 97 Blazer 4x4...thats with a spotless driving record! But what really kills me is when you actually need to use the insurance, they try to crawfish and make excuses not to pay out(hence I won't pay the extra for full coverage). The insurance industry is the modern version of the Mob as far I'm concerned...in any other situation what they do would be called theft.

ok...off the soap box now...
