a dizzy question

Just a quick one- i have a 031 distributor, is this the original equipment on a 67-68 ish engine and will a luminition kit fit? cheers.

031 is oem.. but not positive on which years. either way thats the best dizzy you can have for your car, over anything else new or used. if it breaks spend the money and rebuild it, as they stopped making the 031 a long long lng time ago, and there no longer make the 050 (cheep replacement distributor with enough advance for a 912 engine).

The 031 is the factory 356/912 'replacement' distributor. It was not a stock distributor on any model.

Be sure you don't have too much advance. The later 031's did not have a rock solid way of limiting advance.

Thanks for your help, Im against using the 009 because of the advance curve so thats great! Cheers guys. Now its just loose exhaust valves and a gasket set and it will be back on the road! Is there a cheap gasket set out there?

Do yourself a favor and don't buy a cheap gasket set- they will leak! I have used many of the Victor Reinz gasket set fo a while now and many of the seals are just no good. Spend the dough and buy CSPs ultimate gasket set. That is if you don't want to mark your spot whereever you go.


031 is the best distributor to use, although a 050 is pretty good too, not a huge difference.

Thanks, I will look in to the better set. It makes a huge difference if you can elliminate leaks-less top ups on my way to monaco!
