Bosch 009
Does anyone out there use a 009 distributor. My 1966 is hard to start. I have gotten advice ranging from "thats normal" to the "009 is a direct replacement", "only use stock distributor" to "you can't static time a 009" . If anyone uses one, how and where do you time it?

I use one. The car ran fine with the 009. Later I put Webers on and the car ran great. I put the old distributor back in once just to see the difference. There was a noticeable increase in performance using the 009. I use a timing light and set it the same as the stock distributor.

The original '66 912 distributor, Bosch 022, had split points and could be difficult to adjust. Can't comment on setting up the 009, I replaced my 022 with a 031.

Well I'm a 914 owner just here to check things out. I've been told that the 912 and 914 have a few things in common, I guess a 009 is one of them. Check out "The Sermons of Bob Hoover" at type2.com (I think) if that dosen't work do a search. On the site is a "009, A Gearheads Point of Veiw" it talks about timing and adjusting an engine with a 009.
As I understand it (which ain't saying much) the 009 is just a mech advance 050 which is vac advance. It is a good dist. for engines that have been converted from EFI to carb. |
