Tires
It's time to replace my Michelin XZX 165 SR 15s on my 67 912. I do not race my car, but I drive it every day. I want to keep my stock wheels and suspension set up, but I'm thinking of a lower profile tire, perhaps a little wider, too. Has anyone had any really good experiences or really bad experiences with a particular size or brand of tire? Advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jon |

Jon:
Are your stock wheels 4.5" wide or 5.5" wide? If the wheels are 4.5" wide, personally I wouldn't put 185/70s on, and you'd be back to 165/78x15 (skinny!) tires that are harder to find. I put 195/60x15 Bridgestone Potenzas on my 6" Fuchs, and like them a lot. Technically, they should be 195/65x15, but 195/60 is a couple percent smaller diameter and still clear my stock fenders. |

Jon- I have 195-65-15s on my 66 912-Toyo Proxes H4's which are sold as a performance tire by Les Schwab here in the Pacific Northwest. They are incredible. I did have to increase the track slightly with washers in the front only, as the tires rubbed against the shock towers. The rears clear just fine. I would recommend the upgrade highly.
