I once installed a 1.7L type IV complete with fuel injection in a 69 911E. What a fun project and a great learning experience. So why not on a 912???

By the way, Porsche did the same thing in 1976 and called it a 912E, only they used a 2.0L type IV.

I have an idea, why not find a good used 912E and save yourself the trouble?

When I bought my '66 912, it was ready for the scrapyard and already had a 1600 VW Type 1 motor in it. The case-to-transaxle bolt pattern is the same, the Bosch SR17x starter has the right gear to match up with the VW 200mm 12v flywheel, but you need a Porsche 200mm clutch disc to match up with the 901's input shaft splines. For the rear engine mount, you will need to fabricate an adapter to go between the the 3 mtg bolt holes around the oil pump on the case and the Porsche crossmember that bolts to the mounts in the engine compartment. Don't forget the carb linkage is going to be a LOT different, but it's a pretty easy swap-and a LOT cheaper than rebuilding a 912 or 356c motor. Good luck!
