912 Voltage Regulator Problem

Need some help please! All my wiring to volatage regulator, generator and starter all seem to be correct. The battery is fully chaged at 12 volts. I am unable to start the car without a jump. After car is started with a jump, the headlights dim to nothing and the car stalls. I believe I have a short somewhere but am unable to isolate. Any one have any ideas? It would be greatly appreciated.

Battery at rest 12.5 volts, idle should be 12.5 + and 2500 rpms 13.5 to a max of 14 volts with lights and stereo....anything less then the reg and/or alternator/generator is bad.
